Splash in turquoise-blue bays and enjoy laid-back vibes in Menorca

Set to the soft sounds of the lapping Med and the mellifluous tones of the Catalan tongue, Menorca sits out on the far end of the Balearic archipelago. It's not only the furthest from mainland Spain, but also the less-trodden of the lot. Its towns tick over to the clink of coffee cups and the chatter of locals. Its beaches shimmer a cotton-white under the sun, the occasional stone pines jutting from the clifftops. Away from the thumping clubs of Ibiza and the throbbing resorts of Mallorca, holiday villas in Menorca come steeped in country charm, touting intriguing Bronze Age relics, the quaint harbour restaurants of Mahon town, and swimming bays so blue you could think it was the Caribbean. What are you waiting for?

Why book Menorca holiday rentals with ebookers?

If you're determined to squeeze the most local experience possible out of this beautiful speck in the Balearic chain, it's certainly better to opt for Menorca holiday rentals over traditional hotel stays. Nestled in the stone-built towns, or set out between the pine groves of the country, they take you away from bustling crowds of the main resorts. They also offer a taste of what it means to live like a real Menorqui, letting you make your own slow schedule for walks to the local coves, or lazy days spent reclining in the garden. Then there’s the other big perk of Menorca holiday villas, and that’s having your very own kitchen. With proper cooking facilities, you can cook up medleys of fresh Spanish seafood and vegetables straight from the market stalls.

Top things to do in Menorca

Menorca's majestic backcountry is always going to be its major draw. While exploring its rugged hills of limestone and verdant scrub, you'll pass donkey trains and cheese farmers as you hop from village to village. Meanwhile, the coast is a mosaic of protected wetlands at the S’Albufera d’es Grau, as well as famously photogenic bays where the water is crystal clear and the sands sparkle in the seemingly never-ending sun. Historic Mahon town is also packed with things to do, and a meal on the deep harbourside there is a great way to sample the local cuisine. And then there's majestic Ciutadella, topped with the old palaces of the Aragon crown.

Getting around in Menorca

There are only a few bus services on Menorca. One runs right across the heart of the island to connect the bobbing harbours of Mahon in the east with castle-topped Ciutadella de Menorca in the west. Ciutadella itself is also the gateway to the popular beach towns of the western coast, and there are separate coach routes running through all of those during the high summer months between June and August. However, there's really no substitute for getting your own rental car here, as that will open up the wilder backcountry, and the opportunity of staying in any number of rustic holiday rentals in Menorca.
