Fantastic staff - really friendly, engaging and professional and not at all stuffy. Brilliant location in central Rye and only a 5 minute walk from the train station. Renovation of rooms not quite complete but getting there - our bathroom, although clean, was in need of an overhaul - very powerful shower, though! We had a ‘cosy double’ and found the central heating overwhelming at night but I guess it was -2*C outside! Good breakfast choices, freshly cooked to order.

Thank you for your feedback. yes indeed our cosy double rooms are small, hence why the name. Next time, we recommend to book a classic double or deluxe to have more space.

Room was not as photos. Property was dated and not brilliantly cleaned. Pool was a lot smaller than expected.

Dear Mr and Ms, I am sad to hear that you was disappointed with your room and stay. Maybe the picture you browsed online wasn't meant for the room type you booked? Our pool is not for swimming, its a leisure one and does mention its just a small one, I am sorry your stay was not as expected, although I do hope to welcome you back again!

A touch of the Fawlty Towers

Pros: Old-school charm. Location The lady on reception with the sense of humour (it was needed)
Cons: Tell the reception staff to stop blaming the computer for, what are in fact, human errors. A good plumber A car park attendant
Location: A beautiful, historically significant town with: Good restaurants (book in advance!) Great walking Good pottering
There's a charm to Rye Hotel which visitors from abroad would love as it harks back to a vintage era. Sadly, after a night its charms were lost on us. Our room was stiflingly hot due to a broken radiator that couldn't be switched off. The alternative, in order to get a night's sleep, was to open the window onto a fairly busy road, but that was a better option that being gradually poached. The lady on reception tried her best to move us to another room the following morning, without success. We were shown to a room that the computer said had been vacated, only to walk in on a couple still in bed. We quietly chuckled and went down to breakfast only to find there was no table in the dining room and we'd have to wait half an hour. Rather than hang around we said we'd be happy to sit in reception and be served there. We ate perched over a round table the size of a large dinner plate. After a lovely day out walking we were looking forward to dinner at the hotel, having reserved a table when we first arrived the previous evening. After freshening up we went down to the restaurant only to be told that they had no record of our booking. The lady on reception who had made the reservation was on duty that evening so we asked what was going on. She looked at us blankly and said she didn't remember us or taking the booking! Far from amused, we went into town on a busy saturday to find a restaurant. It took about 40 minutes as most places were full. Disappointing and not funny.

we came back to our room at 5.30pm to find the door ajar. I was not pleased. I spoke to reception and they apologised but didn't take it any further. The staff were actually pleasant apart from that. The rooms are really dated. The web pages certainly are improvement to what I experienced. The swimming pool for example was crowded with just 2 people.
